Description
Har ki dun - Runsara Tal Trek is one of the magnificent and fascinating treks in India at an altitude of 11700 feet. Har ki dun Runsara tal trek falls in the Garhwal Himalayas range of Uttarakhand and starts from the village Sankari. River tons is a perpetual Indian Himalayan river, gives a panoramic and delightful view of this valley, the main source of this river falls in Ruinsara Snout. This route comes across the place Dhum Dhar Kandi ridge that moves further to Kalanag and Bandarpoonch.
You can do Har ki dun and Ruinsara Tal trek separately. But if you do the Ruinsara Lake trek along with Harki dun, then it will be a better experience. Where Har ki dun trek is abutted by the pleasant alpine lakes, waterfalls, grasslands, forest, and meadows. On the other side, Rupinsara Tal suffused with wild purple orchids. This is one of the most ancient Himalayan trails in Uttrakhand. This trek comes under a moderate level valley trek and not difficult to vanquish if compare to other summer treks.
Short Itinerary
Day 2 - Drive from Sankri to Taluka. Trek from Taluka to Gangaad
Day 3 - Trek from Gangaad to Kalkatiyadhar
Day 4 - Trek from Kalkatiyadhar to Boslo via Har Ki Dun
Day 5 - Trek from Boslo to Swarnadhara
Day 6 - Trek from Swarnadhara to Devsu Thatch via Ruinsara Valley
Day 7 - Trek from Devsu Thatch to Taluka. Drive back to Sankri
Day 8 - Drive back from Sankri to Dehradun
Detailed Itinerary
Drive from Dehradun to Sankri
Transport will be organised from Hotel Grand Legacy, near Laal Pull, Dehradun at 6.30 AM. Cost of the cab – Rs 6,500 per SUV (shared among 5-6 trekkers) and Rs 10,000 for Tempo Traveller.
Drive from Sankri to Taluka. Trek to Gangaad
Flat gradient for first 3 km. After Bhida ka Thatch, it is a gradual ascent and descent all through the trail. You can refill your water bottles from the river along the trail.
Trek from Gangaad to Kalkatiyadhar
Easy walking day. Initial level walk followed by a short steep climb. The trail opens up into a boulder section and gradually ascends to the campsite.
Trek from Kalkatiyadhar to Boslo via Har Ki Dun
A beautiful stretch taking you into the heart of the valley. Enjoy the views of the ancient villages and the towering peaks of Har Ki Dun.
Trek from Boslo to Swarnadhara
Immediate climb after Boslo followed by a gradual ascent. One litre of water is sufficient for the start as sources appear later in the day.
Trek Swarnadhara to Devsu Thatch via Ruinsara Valley
Gradual ascent to the lake followed by a continuous descent to the river crossing. Finish the day with a steep ascent to reach the lush Devsu Thatch.
Trek to Taluka. Drive back to Sankri
A long descent through the woods back to Taluka. A vehicle transfer will take you back to the base camp at Sankri.
Drive back from Sankri to Dehradun
Expect to reach Dehradun between 6:00 and 7:00 PM. Cab costs shared among trekkers. Distance/altitudes may vary slightly based on conditions.
Important Points
- Mandatory: Carry a copy of photo ID for forest check posts.
- Stay: Base camp in lodges, on trek 2 persons per tent.
- Cloakroom facility available at base camp for excess luggage.
Note: Twin sharing tents may be replaced by triple sharing in May-August due to international tent shortages.
